Should Your Piano Get a Pitch Raise?
Has it been a long time since your last tuning?
If your piano hasn’t been tuned in over a year—or it’s noticeably out of tune—it may need more than just a fine adjustment.
That’s where a pitch raise comes in.
What Is a Pitch Raise?
A pitch raise is a preliminary tuning pass that brings your piano closer to standard pitch (A440) before a final fine tuning. When strings have drifted too far off pitch, trying to tune them precisely in one pass often causes the other strings to shift again. It’s like trying to level one side of a trampoline—you move one part, and everything else reacts.
We use a carefully calibrated approach to
stabilise the tension across all strings, preparing the piano for an accurate final tuning.
Do I Need a Pitch Raise?
If your piano is more than
20–30 cents flat (about a quarter-tone), we’ll likely recommend a pitch raise.
If it hasn’t been tuned in
several years, a pitch raise will help restore correct string tension and long-term tuning stability.
If you plan to play with other instruments or record, staying close to standard pitch is essential.
